# 1 -- My MOLLY, my fuzzy-wuzzy child...okay, she's a dog,
but to me, she
is my child!  In dog years, she's getting
middle aged, but you know how it is with "parents"--it
doesn't matter how old your kids get, they're still your kids.

My friend, Tom McDonough, who is a scientist and science
fiction writer.  He also writes nonfiction.  He and I attended
the Community Emergency Response Team training offered
by the Pasadena Fire Department in March of this year (they
call their program "PERT").  I highly recommend CERT
training -- it goes well beyond "some food and water for
three days" preparation.  See Tom's website for more
information:

HAM RADIO!!!  In preparation to help out in any local
disaster like "The Big One" that is expected any day now,
Tom and I became licensed amateur radio (or "ham" radio)
operators.  Take a look at the website of the most important
ham radio organization in America, the ARRL:

HISTORY - San Gabriel Valley, I have recently learned that I
am a "dob" or "daughter of both" -- both the Union and the
Confederacy.  So, I joined the Civil War Round Table of San
Gabriel Valley.  I also enjoy the speakers hosted by the
Orange County chapter of ARCE, the American Research
Center in Egypt.

CHOCOLATE!  especially milk chocolate, and really most
especially milk chocolate almond clusters...or peanut
clusters!  Mmmmmmmmm!

ONION RINGS, especially the ones at Wolfe Burgers, on
Lake, Pasadena. Mmmmmm!  Well, they're my gold standard
for onion rings, and I recently encountered a "10" on the
Wolfe Burgers scale at a family coffee shop called Dolores
Restaurant, 11407 Santa Monica Blvd., between Purdue and
Butler,  in West Los Angeles (310) 477-1061.  Really worth
dropping in - just for the onion rings!

"Mystery!" and "Masterpiece Theatre" on KCET and other
PBS stations. Oh, also NOVA and Nature, much of the time --
as long as I don't have to watch anything eating anything
else.

Reading mysteries, especially English "cozies"--murder
mysteries that take place in villages. Margery Allingham's
Mr. Campion stories are my favorites. Also love to read
Rumpole stories and watch the television series.

PEANUT BUTTER and jelly sandwiches. Super Chunky only!

Classic movies. In my imagination, the "ideal me" is as funny
as Jean Arthur, as graceful a dancer as Ginger Rogers, as
mystically beautiful as Garbo, as gracious as Greer Garson
and Irene Dunne, and hitting high C's like Jeanette
MacDonald. Alas!  Only in my dreams...  It's a good thing that
none of my clients ask me to tell a joke,  dance or sing!

NOT SO FAVORITE THINGS ("PET PEEVES")

The "errant" apostrophe.

People who do not cover theirs sneezes
effectively,
that is, with their elbow crooks or their upper arms  --
not on their hands (or, worse, "not at all").
